The market demand for small-displacement models gives independent brands a stage to release. At present, the displacement of the main models sold by independent brands is 1.6 litres or less, such as BYD's f3 and f0, which account for nearly 80% of its total sales. In addition to the strong market demand, the advantages of the independent brand itself is also an important factor in its development. As a fully controlled enterprise of the Chinese side, the independent brand has reduced the steps of introduction and modification compared with the joint venture. Therefore, the independent brand is completely better than the joint venture in the new car launch. More models mean entering more market segments.
At the same time, in terms of model structure and brand establishment, independent brands also began to make some moves in 2009. In March this year, Chery released the high-end brand Ruiqi. Subsequently, the brand has already launched three models, of which Ruiqi g5, which is priced at nearly 180000 yuan, will be the main model hitting the middle and high end. Geely also changed its image at the low end of the past, with its emgrand brand releasing a new mid-class car ec718.
